VIETNAM WOOD ENTERPRISES SEIZE OPPORTUNITIES TO BOOST EXPORTS EARLY IN 2024

11 March 2024

According to Mr. Tran Ngoc Liem, Director of the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry - Ho Chi Minh City branch (VCCI Ho Chi Minh), 2023 was the first year the wood export sector ranked among the top 5 in the world and also marked a year of negative growth after maintaining a positive trend for two decades.

However, at the beginning of January 2024, Vietnam's general export situation and the wood exports, in particular, showed many positive signs. Wood and wood products were the only agricultural sector items with an export turnover exceeding 1 billion USD, accounting for 29% of the total export turnover of this sector.

Mr. Tran Ngoc Liem stated that these figures show positive signals for the wood export industry, but it still faces many challenges due to complicated and prolonged conflicts between countries, affecting businesses' operations. Therefore, VCCI Ho Chi Minh will coordinate with the Vietnam Association for Building Materials (VABM) and Liên Minh Wood Handicraft Corporation to organize VIFA EXPO 2024 from February 26 to 29, 2024, aiming to connect businesses with international markets, help firms consolidate relationships with traditional customers, and seek and expand new customer bases.

Mr. Tran Ngoc Liem, Director of the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry - Ho Chi Minh City branch (VCCI Ho Chi Minh), introduced the 15th Vietnam International Furniture & Home Accessories Fair (VIFA EXPO 2024).

VIFA EXPO 2024 will take place at the Sky EXPO Vietnam Exhibition Center (Quang Trung Software Park, District 12), expecting over 600 enterprises to register with nearly 2,000 booths over a total area of 36,000 m2. Among them, furniture enterprises account for 61%; handicrafts make up 8%, home decor products account for 19%; machinery, accessories, and services make up 12%. Notably, Vietnamese enterprises make up 52% of the participants, while international enterprises from 17 countries and territories account for 48%.

Mr. Tran Quoc Manh, Chairman of Saigon Trading & Production Development Corporation, hopes that by participating in VIFA EXPO, enterprises will find new customers and update themselves with new trends and customer preferences to develop appropriate business strategies.
