25 May 2023

Up to now, the conditions for exporting lychee fruit to markets have been completed. With a positive market signal, it is expected that lychee exports will be favorable.

Preparations are ready

Sharing at the exchange, providing information to press agencies on issues related to the agricultural sector organized by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development on May 21. Mr. Hoang Trung, Director of the Plant Protection Department (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development) - said that up to this point, the preparation of conditions for exporting lychee to markets has been prepared.

Accordingly, for the Chinese market, on average, we export about 80,000 - 120,000 tons of lychee annually. This year, the work of instructing people, cooperatives and businesses on the technical requirements to export lychee to this market has gone very smoothly so far.

For the Japanese market, this year, the Japanese side will send experts to directly supervise all fabric lots before exporting to this market. Therefore, the Plant Protection Department has coordinated with relevant units to monitor and re-inspect the entire treatment plant in Bac Giang and Hai Duong provinces. As of now, the inspection work has been completed.

For the Australian market, it is very convenient to ensure the technical requirements for lychees exported to this market (the lychee entering this market uses the irradiation method) because the current irradiation factory of Hanoi Irradiation Center was able to handle it.

For the US market, through many exchanges, the US Department of Agriculture has facilitated us to have 1 more accredited irradiation facility to meet your requirements, the Hanoi Irradiation Center.

According to the report of the Hanoi Irradiation Center, at the end of May, the US will return to Hanoi at the end of May, and the unit will install and put it into operation for irradiation work. If it is favorable, Bac Giang's litchi will be brought to Hanoi for processing, not in Ho Chi Minh City as before.

Recently, the Plant Protection Department (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development) has just granted 12 more codes for Bac Giang lychee growing areas for export to Australia and Thailand. Accordingly, nine lychee growing areas are exported to Australia with a total area of over 117.5 hectares and three are exported to Thailand with a total area of 42 hectares.

Thus, the province currently has 19 area codes for lychee growing areas to be exported to Thailand and 9 codes for export to Australia.

Along with these codes, the province now has 110 codes for exporting lychee to the Chinese market with an area of more than 16,000 hectares; 37 codes were exported to Japan (more than 297.4 hectares) and 15 were exported to the US (more than 184.2 hectares).

In addition to the 12 newly issued codes, the Plant Protection Department also transferred information on 11 lychee growing area codes to specialized agencies of the United States and China for your review and assessment of the new grant.

The export market signal is very positive

According to the Department of Industry and Trade of Bac Giang province, in 2023, the local lychee production is estimated at more than 180,000 tons. It is expected that lychee will be harvested soon from May 25 to June 15, and the main lychee season from June 10 to July 30. The output of lychee for domestic consumption is about 81,000 tons (accounting for 45%), the rest is for export.

Currently, there are Chinese businesses and traders promoting lychee consumption agreements with Bac Giang province. In addition, more than 200 Chinese traders have registered to enter Vietnam to come to Bac Giang to participate in monitoring the raw material area and sign contracts for purchasing and consuming lychee.

After two rounds of dossier approval, the above list of Chinese traders was sent by the Bac Giang Provincial Police to the Immigration Department (Ministry of Public Security) to carry out immigration procedures. It is expected that at the end of May, Chinese traders will come to Bac Giang to promote the consumption of early ripe lychee.

In Hai Duong, in 2023, the whole district has 45 lychee production areas that have been granted 168 export codes, of which 45 are Chinese export growing areas; 40 Australian export growing area codes; 36 Japanese export growing area codes; 39 US export growing area codes; 8 Thai export growing area codes.

Along with exploiting the domestic market, this year, Hai Duong will promote trade promotion activities to export lychee to traditional markets such as China, US, EU, Australia, Japan, etc. As well as seeking and expanding new and potential markets such as countries in South America; African countries…

As an enterprise specializing in exporting agricultural products to difficult markets, Ms. Ngo Thi Thu Hong - General Director of Ameii Vietnam - assessed that this year, the market has many positive signals. Currently, the company has received a lot of orders from markets, including its traditional markets such as Japan, EU, Australia and some new markets in the Middle East, Singapore, Malaysia...

Up to now, Ameii has received orders "full" capacity of factories. To ensure sufficient output as well as quality, the enterprise has signed consumption contracts with cooperatives and farmers in Thanh Ha and Hai Duong lychee areas with the purchase price about 20% higher than the market price.

The export market signal is very positive. Producers who are farmers, cooperatives, as well as businesses involved in distribution and export are very busy, receiving many orders... bringing the expectation of a bountiful harvest.

Particularly for China - the main export market of Vietnam's lychee, To Ngoc Son - Deputy Director of the Asia-Africa Market Department (Ministry of Industry and Trade) - said that although the export market signal is very strong. However, the Chinese market is increasingly demanding strict standards, aiming for high quality products. Therefore, litchi farmers need to focus on producing quality fabric to meet this market.
