Agriculture, forestry and fishery is one of the important export industries of Vietnam, contributing positively to the overall export turnover of the country. In 2022, the export of agricultural, forestry and fishery products will bring in 53.2 billion USD, far exceeding the record of 48.6 billion USD in 2021.

Entering the first months of 2023, difficulties in production and a decrease in export orders made the export turnover of goods in the first 4 months of 2023 estimated at 108.57 billion USD, down 11.8% compared to the same period last year. period of the previous year.

Particularly for agricultural, forestry and fishery products, according to the report of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, export turnover only reached 15.66 billion USD, down 13.3% over the same period last year.

In the general picture of agricultural, forestry and fishery exports, which is somewhat less bright, there are still industries and fields with high export turnover in the first 4 months of 2023, specifically, rice increased by 54.5%, vegetables increased by 54.5%. fruit increased by 19.4%; cassava increased by 26.3%.

Experts said that economic integration brings great opportunities for Vietnam in expanding markets and exporting agricultural, forestry and fishery products. Up to now, Vietnam's agricultural, forestry and fishery products have been present in 180 markets around the world. Many agricultural products of Vietnam hold leading positions in world exports such as coffee, rice, tea, cashew nuts, etc.

Notably, the Ministry of Industry and Trade has been agile, renewed trade promotion, opened many new export markets such as fresh lychee to Japan, pomelo to Chile, passion fruit to Europe. ..

In addition, online trade promotion activities have helped Vietnamese exporters save on trade promotion costs while maintaining and developing good relations with foreign partners across 5 continents.

Effectively exploit opportunities from FTAs

In the context that the US and EU economies are major trading markets of Vietnam, the growth rate is less than 1% and the possibility of recession is not excluded. These trends will reduce the demand for goods and affect new investment, thereby affecting the production and exports of countries, including Vietnam's agricultural, forestry and fishery products.

On the other hand, international economic integration creates strong competition in both domestic and foreign markets. The needs of the markets change and the requirements for quality standards are increasing. The change in import policies of other countries, the increase in technical barriers, trade remedies, etc. will greatly affect the export of agricultural products.

In that context, the Government and the Prime Minister correctly identified the situation, drastically directed, urged, and flexibly operated to harmonize immediate and long-term goals; promote the initiative, dynamism and creativity, drastically implement solutions for economic recovery and development, and ensure social security.

The strategy requires market diversification, avoiding excessive dependence on one market area; towards a healthy and reasonable bilateral trade balance, ensuring sustainable growth in the long term.

Effectively exploiting market opening opportunities from international economic integration commitments in Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) to boost exports to major markets such as the EU, Japan, and China , Korea, ASEAN... To step up the exploitation of potential markets such as the United States, Russia, Eastern Europe, Northern Europe, India, Africa, the Middle East and Latin America... aiming to build molds a stable and long-term commercial framework.

According to forecast, the global economy in the coming period will continue to fluctuate complicatedly, not excluding the risk of recession. Therefore, it will have a huge impact on Vietnam's export industries. This is a problem that has been predicted, forecasted and prepared by the leaders of the Ministry, Departments and functional departments of the Ministry of Industry and Trade.
